Trusts and Estates Associate Attorney

Overview
We are seeking a motivated, client-focused and detail-oriented attorney to join our transactional team. This role offers an excellent opportunity for professional growth and the chance to work on complex trust and estate matters, tax and business succession planning matters.  

Duties

  • Meet and communicate directly with clients, creating custom estate plans to meet their needs and advising executors and trustees with respect to their fiduciary responsibilities.
  • Draft and review legal documents, including estate planning and probate documents.
  • Collaborate with senior attorneys on complex estate planning and administrative matters.
  • Develop and maintain a deep understanding of trust and estate structures and planning documents, including simple and complex wills, powers of attorney, revocable and irrevocable trust agreements, life insurance, retirement benefits, business planning agreements, federal gift, estate, and generation-skipping transfer taxes, and federal and state income taxes.
  • Develop and maintain an understanding of the related areas of elder law, guardianship, real property, corporate governance, and estate and fiduciary litigation.
  • With experience, handle every step of a matter, from client intake through billing.
  • Maintain organized client files and documentation in accordance with firm policies.

Requirements

  • A JD from an ABA accredited law school with a license to practice law in North Carolina or admission pending to the NC Bar are required.
  • Desire to work and communicate directly with clients and collaborate with senior attorneys.
  • Demonstrated interest in trusts and estates, and tax law.
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to conduct comprehensive legal research.
  • Excellent legal drafting skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for effective client interaction and representation.
  • Ability to manage numerous matters and meet required deadlines.
  • A commitment to ethical practice and maintaining confidentiality.
