Roberts & Stevens welcomes new attorneys, John D. Noor and V. Morgan Peterson

Roberts & Stevens is pleased to welcome John D. Noor and V. Morgan Peterson to the firm.

Noor is a litigation attorney focusing on environmental law, complex business litigation, governmental affairs, and public policy. Noor graduated from the University of North Carolina at Asheville before attending the University of North Carolina School of Law at Chapel Hill for his Juris Doctor where he graduated with honors. After law school, Noor served for two years as a law clerk to the Honorable Calvin E. Murphy on the North Carolina Business Court. Prior to his clerkship, Noor was a summer clerk to the Honorable Robert C. Hunter, Jr. on the North Carolina Court of Appeals and, before attending law school, worked for UNC President Erskine Bowles.

Noor has been involved in cases concerning a broad range of companies, from multi-billion dollar financial institutions, to small, closely-held family businesses. In his environmental practice, Noor has worked on Brownfields Redevelopment, permitting under the Clean Water Act and Endangered Species Act, nuisance actions, administrative rulemaking, oil and natural gas leasing, and energy performance contracting. While with the Business Court, Noor worked on cases involving shareholder rights disputes, corporate mergers and acquisitions, trade secrets, employment covenants, unfair and deceptive trade practices, international discovery, and other business torts. Noor also has experience with government taxation of internet commerce, municipal negotiations and litigation over utility pole attachment rates, condemnation, and environmental sustainability.

Peterson, a Labor and Employment Law attorney, advises and represents small and large businesses and human resource professionals about the numerous laws affecting the workplace. She advises clients on a broad range of issues including: wage and hour compliance, non-compete agreements, employee handbooks, employee benefits, personnel policies, employment discrimination, and contracts and procedures. Peterson works closely with clients to prevent potential problems with day-to-day counseling on an array of human resource issues and proactive strategies. If and when a dispute cannot be resolved informally, Peterson is prepared to defend her client’s best interest in litigation.

During her undergraduate studies at Appalachian State University, Peterson was a service learning volunteer with North Carolina Legal Aid. While attending The Charleston School of Law, Peterson served as editor in chief for Volume VII of the Charleston Law Review. She also served as a volunteer with the 16th Judicial Circuit Public Defenders Office of South Carolina. Peterson’s volunteer work and editorial experiences have equipped her with skills that may be utilized in the pursuit of her client’s best interest.
